Artek Mademoiselle Lounge Chair Black stained
Mademoiselle Lounge Chair designed by Ilmari Tapiovaara in 1956. Seat, back and frame of stained or painted solid birch.
Artek was established in 1935 by Alvar Aalto, his wife Aino Aalto, Maire Gullichsen and Nils-Gustav Hahl, four young idealists and architects, designers and art historians. Their business idea was “to sell furniture and to promote a modern culture of habitation by exhibitions and other educational means.”
To this day Artek furniture is made in Finland. The company manufactures the classic Aalto pieces and introduces new designers as well as older gems. The latest addition being Ilmari Tapiovaara's work, mostly designed in the 50's, with Pirkka series and Mademoiselle lounge chairs and rocking chairs.
