Lee Ufan emerged in the late 1960s as one of the founders and major proponents of the avant-garde Mono-ha—or School of Things—group, among Japan’s first internationally renowned contemporary art movements. A continuation of the artist’s renowned Dialogue series, this book highlights his 2018 Pace exhibition - the first time Lee exclusively showed color Dialogue paintings in a focused installation. On the occasion of Lee Ufan's installation of new paintings, the artist sat down with writer Philip Larratt-Smith to discuss his artistic practice - painting as an act of "empty consciousness," and art in the age of artificial intelligence.
