Tikau is a small and passionate Finnish company with a motto ‘using design as a tool to help’. Tikau works with its NGO Tikau Share in India to combine Scandinavian design with fair trade and sustainability. Tikau is named after the Indian/Hindi word meaning ’sustainability’. Tikau's approach to sustainability starts from sustainable development and ends with sustainable consumption. The company uses ecological production methods and employment as forms of development work, encouraging solidarity and global sharing of resources as a means to help. On top of producing original, beautiful Finnish designs in wool rugs, handmade baskets and lamps, the priority is to provide work in areas where most needed, promote education for children, give medical care and aid to families, and raise the living standards. All Tikau items are handmade by artisans in rural India
