Tiina Laakkonen hails from the town of Imatra, Finland - country that largely shaped her aesthetic in fashion and design. During her late teenage years, Tiina honed her editorial eye in Paris as a model and student of fashion design at the famed Chambre Syndicale de la Couture. Upon graduation, Tiina began working at Chanel as a design assistant to Karl Lagerfeld and later on became the accessories designer for the house of Lanvin.
Tiina’s career segued into the role of stylist when she became the fashion editor at British Vogue, where for over six years she styled high-end fashion stories. Today she continues her career as a stylist while working for a range of magazines, including T Magazine, China Vogue, and Vogue Nippon, as well as for advertising campaigns in both print and television. She has also consulted with fashion brands like Calvin Klein, Bottega Veneta, and Prabal Gurung on their seasonal collections and has styled such celebrity clients as Penelope Cruz, Natalie Portman, Tilda Swinton, Julianne Moore, and Carey Mulligan.
In 2012 Tiina opened her first store, TIINA the STORE in Amagansett, New York, where she lives with her husband. In many ways, Tiina regards the store as her personal dream closet, where she can curate a select mix of luxury brands and products within the home, beauty and fashion categories. Many of these labels reflect Tiina’s Finnish heritage and distinct point of view, while others she’s come to love throughout her esteemed career in fashion.
